How Do You Find Focus When You Are Under Pressure?

This week’s topic is

How do you find focus when you are under pressure? I have found by watching people perform in their daily lives that many of them struggle in the area of real focus while under pressures from the world.

I think that this is something that can be handled if addressed correctly. If you look around at all those high achievers or famous people who came from nothing and became something they all had to face this issue and overcome it.

Focus is not something that anyone is naturally born with, like with anything it must be learned. The question is how do you achieve real focus among all the many distractions? Well, that is what I will be discussing with you today.

I will start by breaking down how pressure affects us and then I will go into how to find focus while under pressure and I will end with some final thoughts. Now that’s jump in!

How Does Pressure Affect Us?

You might find it pretty amazing just how many people do not even realize how much pressure they are putting themselves under or what kind of side effects that they are creating for their mind, body or emotional wellbeing.

The pressure just seems to be apart of day to day life for most. There however some people who thrive on pressure and that is not necessarily a bad thing as long as you are not doing harm to yourself trying to meet that deadline or achieve that goal.

For most people however they end up not even seeing the problem and thus they overeat, Lose their tempers or become easily frustrated and tend to push people away only making things harder for themselves in the end.

People tend to feel defeated or overwhelmed when things do not work the way they thought they would or they give up altogether. Pressure also encourages a host of other things such as lack of sleep which leads to the use of controlled and uncontrolled substances and poor decisions.

You also have to deal with the side effect of long term stress and pressure. For starters, it will make you old before your time. It truly does a number on your skin, hair nails, and weight.

Even more important it will affect your heart, liver, and joints. It can also cause severe headaches and high blood pressure. This is only to name a few things you could face or deal with due to prolonged pressure or stress.

Hopefully, you are seeing just how bad stress and pressure can be for you when it controls you rather then you controlling it.

How To Find Focus Under Pressure

So how if pressure is so bad for you can you find focus under pressure so you can have control of how you handle everything? This is a good question, If you do any kind of research it will likely tell you that there are certain things you must do to be at your peak performance. Some of those things are

  1. Sleep at least 6-8 hours every night.
  2. Exercise at least 15 to 30 minute a day
  3. Eat at least one well-balanced meal a day( it is recommended by most that you eat 2 to 3 meals a day. However if you only eat one meal you can supplement those lost meals with smoothies, health shakes or healthy snacks throughout your day.)

With these three ingredients, you can think much clearer, thus you can focus and perform at a higher level. Now there are other things that you can do to increase your performance and focus such as being aligned with yourself as to what you want to achieve by whatever it is that you are feeling pressured by.

When you really understand why you are doing something and you understand what you want to achieve by doing it, most people will really become focused on the end result. All of a sudden what once was pressure to perform becomes a challenge and with most people an exciting adventure

Which leads me to the next thing that will help you find that focus, your mindset. What I mean is if you are only doing something because you have to then the weight of that task is heavy, if however you are doing something because it is what you want to be doing then there really isn’t any weight to that task because there is something in for you. So just having a more positive frame of mind will help you eliminate the pressure and find at least a little focus.

Exercises and Techniques

Some other exercises and techniques you can try to improve your focus or performance are

  • Meditation.
  • Breathing exercises
  • Daily Routines
  • Blocking out all distractions while you are busy or working.
  • Play brain games that help the functionality of your brain. Such as Skillz, smart or left vs right all of which can be found in your app or apple store.
  • Only do one thing at a time. I know it is so easy to multi-task these days, however, you will find when you do one thing at a time you will actually get more done.

These are just a few ideas however I am sure there are more great ideas out there that will help you find better focus and will help you handle your pressure better.

I would also like to point out if you have already tried many if not all these things and still struggle in focusing and or if you are suffering from the side effects of pressure or have other symptoms you should probably consider seeing your physician there could be something more serious happening with you that you should get checked out.

Final Thoughts

Focus can be found even among all the distractions of the world today. It will take some effort and some discipline to achieve it at first but it will become just something you can do with a little time and practice. I hope you enjoyed this post.
