What I learned this week:

Welcome back, everyone. Today I will be discussing the things I have been learning about how to rank on search engines.

There is an entire process to ranking in a search engine which I find amazing. Once you have mastered this process you will have your content where it will be seen by more and more people.

This is what businesses and need to thrive, people to be interested in what they offer. So today I will break down this process for you by taking your hand and walking you through the things I have learned.

Learning to rank:

Before I begin telling you the process that I have learned, Let me say all this came about because one day I was searching for one of my posts in google and I just couldn’t find it.

I thought to myself “ Why not? I began to research, only to find out that your post has to be in certain places so that Google or Bing knows your content is available to be viewed. I found it amazing that is was not enough to simply put it on social media or tell people about your posts. Then it crossed my mind, that If I couldn’t find my posts on google then neither could anyone else.

That is all is all it took to begin to learn all that I could about getting ranked. This is what I learned and what I will be letting you know about. I learned that posts have to be made a certain way, I learned about webmaster tools and why they are important, I learned about verifying my website and what sitemaps is.

I learned about fetching your content along with why site and content feedback and reviews are so important to help you rank.

Now let me break down all this information for you and just maybe you will start off better than I did and you will rank faster.

What is ranking

Before I go any further I feel I must tell you what I Mean by Ranked for those of you who do not know.

A ranking is getting put on the pages in google. Most people strive to be on page one or two since they tend to get the most views.

According to dictionnary.com, the definition of ranking is to be senior or superior. Prominent or highly regarded.

So how do you get to that level? You start by creating a readable and informative post.

 

Creating good posts:

When it comes to writing something, it should be as easy as just writing something but to get ranked it is not that simple.

When you are working to get ranked on Google or Bing search engine you need to have certain things in your posts and your posts need to write a certain way. You need to have things like

1. You need to have a great keyword title. If you would like to read more on keyword titles you should read Blogging for beginners
2. You need to have both the main title and 3 to seven 7 subtitles.
3. All subtitles need to be set in an h2 or h3.
4. The content must be relevant and informative.
5. You have to have images and or video posts embedded in your content.
6. It has to be readable meaning you need to keep your sentences short and spread out.
7. Fill out your meta description and keyword.
8. Post consistently 1 to 2 times a week.

This process will help the search engines know how to rank you and decide what page you will be on. The next thing I learned was about Webmaster.

WebMasters:

Webmaster tools can be found in both Google and Bing which controls yahoo. Since these are the main three search engines used it is important that you use both Google and Bing webmaster tools.

This tool is designed to help you let Google or Bing know that your content is available and that your site is active.

When you are first starting out you may not have enough content for Google or Bing to go through your content and rank you at all so, this process can take time if only because you do not have enough content on your site yet.

How do you use a webmaster tool? You would start by simply signing up for a free account.

Then you need to verify your website URL. This video will show you how  VIDEO TRAINING

 

Once you have done this then you are ready for the next step. You would then want to submit a sitemap and to fetch your current post.

Why do you fetch content and what is sitemap?

To get Google to crawl your content they may need extra help to know it is there. This requires you have google fetch your post to be crawled. Inside Google or Bing webmaster tools, you will find in the sidebar a fetch it tab. Press that tap and enter to URL for the post you want them to crawl.

You would then go into sitemaps on either webmaster tool and sitemap and request that they crawl your site by submitting your website URL. This is what sitemap is for, it is a way for Google or Bing to crawl your site and see all your content at one time. By submitting your site once a week or with your most recent post you will allow Google or Bing to see for themselves that you have new content on your site. This helps to speed up the process of ranking.

The next step is site and content feedback and reviews.

 

Feedback And Reviews:

So why do you need feedback and review? The more people see reviews and feedback on your posts the more people will trust what you have to say.

The more people trust you the more they will be willing to read and share your content.

This is important because you want your content to be shared and talked about. The more people do this the more trusted and well known you will be.

It is hard at first to get this task done when you are first starting out.

Unless you are already known for something else that you do, then you might have a good size following already.

 

Final Thoughts:

At first, when you are starting out it is really hard to get any of your content seen and if it is not seen how can it be ranked. Yes, this is a vicious cycle that you will live for a while as a new blogger.

Do not lose hope things will get better. You first take the steps to get into the search engines and then you will be seen by people.

Until you can gain traction with ranking you can use word of mouth and social media advertising to be seen this way as you start to rank people will be able to find your content easily and you will be the master and no longer the student. At least that is the idea:)
